The high octane travails of Mad Max Rockatansky take place in the not too distant future, but today, fans of the classic action series can bring the post-apocalyptic future into their homes with the complete Mad Max Trilogy on Blu-ray.

After a long production, Mad Max: Fury Road finally wrapped up principal photography in Namibia recently.  Still, we've seen no official looks at the film, and specifically at Tom Hardy as the new Max Rockatansky.  A new autographed photo may provide the first, thoroughly unofficial, glimpse at Hardy in full road warrior mode.

Batman is back!

Available for purchase on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download beginning December 4th is The Dark Knight Rises, the third and final chapter in director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. Following the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, Academy Award-winner Christian Bale (The Fighter) returns once again as the Caped Crusader defending the streets of Gotham from a whole new crop of bad guys. 

In addition to the return of Bale in the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, the film also welcomes back Oscar-winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules) as Alfred Pennyworth, Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) as Lucius Fox, and Oscar-nominee Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) as Commissioner Gordon, as well as new cast members such as Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose) as Miranda Tate, Oscar-nominee Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) as Selina Kyle, Tom Hardy (Warrior) as Bane, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Looper) as John Blake. The film also features cameos from Batman Begins actors Cillian Murphy (Red Lights) as Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow, and Oscar-nominee Liam Neeson (Schindler’s List) as Ra’s al Ghul. 

While Batman Begins was loosely based on Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One, and The Dark Knight took its inspiration from seminal Batman stories such as Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore, and Batman: The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb, The Dark Knight Rises seems to take its lead from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, as well as Batman: Knightfall by Chuck Dixon, which first featured the villain Bane.

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to visit The Dark Knight Legend Exhibit at LA LIVE in Los Angeles and speak with George Barris (Creator of the Original 1966 Batmobile), Andy Smith (Builder of The Tumbler from Christopher Nolan's Trilogy), Jeff Dunham (Comedian and Owner of a Restored Michael Keaton Batmobile), and Mark Greenhalgh (Warner Bros. Corporate Archive) about the once in a lifetime event and their contributions to The Dark Knight legacy. In addition to featuring all five big screen Batmobiles, the exhibit also includes costumes and props from Christopher Nolan's Trilogy, and Batman art. 

Dane DeHaan is having one hell of a good year! The actor, who until this year was best known for his roles on the HBO series In Treatment and True Blood, has had not one but three major movies released in 2012. 

DeHaan first gained attention earlier this year for his role as a teenager that gains super powers and then travels to the dark side in the surprise hit, found footage film Chronicle. He was next seen in director John Hillcoat’s critically acclaimed ensemble film Lawless, which will be available on Blu-ray and DVD beginning November 27th and stars Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy. Not to mention, that DeHaan can also currently be seen in a small role as a soldier in director Steven Spielberg’s historical epic Lincoln. If that wasn’t enough, the actor has several high profile projects on the horizon including The Place Beyond the Pines with Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, Devil’s Knot about the West Memphis Three, and a possible role as Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, while that is still a rumor and has yet to be confirmed. 

In Lawless, which is based on the novel “The Wettest County in the World" by Matt Bondurant, DeHaan plays Cricket Pate, the crippled best friend of Jack Bondurant (Shia LaBeouf). Jack and his older brothers Forrest (Tom Hardy) and Howard (Jason Clarke) run a profitable depression-era bootlegging business that is threatened by a crooked law officer named Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce). In addition to DeHaan, LaBeouf, Hardy, Clarke, and Pearce, the film’s impressive cast also includes Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), and Academy Award-nominees Jessica Chastain (The Help), and Gary Oldman (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy). Lawless was directed by acclaimed filmmaker John Hillcoat (The Road) and was written by his frequent collaborator, Australian musician Nick Cave.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with actor Dane DeHaan about his work on Lawless, as well as Lincoln, and the upcoming films Devil’s Knot, and The Place Beyond the Pines. The talented young actor discussed making Lawless, working with John Hillcoat, Tom Hardy’s unusual performance, creating his character, researching the prohibition era, reading the book, how he became friends with Shia LaBeouf, shooting his most powerful scenes with Guy Pearce, as well as Lincoln, what its like to work on a Steven Spielberg set, his role in Devil’s Knot, and collaborating with director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) on The Place Beyond the Pines.

Only last week, it emerged that David Yates, the director behind the last four Harry Potter movies, decided to make a Tarzan movie for Warner Bros.  Immediately, the big question was just which hunk of muscle would don a loincloth to play Edgar Rice Burroughs' jungle hero.  The answer may already be forthcoming, as it looks like Alexander Skarsgard has emerged as the frontrunner to star in Tarzan.

Earlier this year, Disney attempted to make a big blockbuster following John Carter, the Edgar Rice Burroughs hero who has influenced science-fiction stories for a century.  The result was not a commercial success, but Carter isn't exactly a household name, and Warner Bros. is proceeding with a movie for a far more well-known Burroughs creation: Tarzan.

Now, it looks like the studio has found a director to bring the Ape Man back to life in live-action: David Yates.

After years – years! – of breathless anticipation for the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, it's possible that Batfans are suffering from withdrawals since The Dark Knight Rises arrived in theaters worldwide two months ago.  With that in mind, we've been keeping on eye on the Blu-ray and DVD release of The Dark Knight Rises, which is lucky, because Warner Bros. has revealed a release date, as well as collector's edition packaging and a partial listing of special features.

When The Dark Knight Rises is available on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download, you have Warner Bros.' permission to watch it legally.  Right now, Christopher Nolan's conclusion to the bat-trilogy kicked off with Batman Begins is still playing in more than 1,500 theaters, but we nonetheless know just when The Dark Knight Rises will arrive in a variety of home entertainment formats.

December 3rd of this year, meaning you'll have just about three weeks of shopping time to get it for the rabid Bat-fan in your family.
